Brick Stairs, Mornings, and Birds
In elementary school, before I left in the mornings, my dad and I would sit outside the kitchen on the brick stairway, whisper, and throw bread to the birds. Eventually, the sparrows became rather emboldened and would venture as far as the bottom step in search of yummies. My house faces W-NW, and because of this, the sun rises on the opposite side of the stairway, casting shadows over these encounters. Ambient lighting provided for a high degree of visibility, but not much brightness. In 6th grade, I came to a new school with new, significantly earlier time to get up in the morning and my dad and I wouldn't sit out on the stairs anymore. The birds don't come around so much anymore.
